Architecture Built from Unutilized Timber Recognized by International Design Award

XENCE Inc. announces that its Circular Timber Greenhouse™ has received the Red Dot Design Award 2026 in the Urban Design category.

Since its launch in 2025, the Circular Timber Greenhouse™ has received the Good Design Award 2025 and the Timber Utilization Competition award. The Red Dot recognition further establishes its reputation both in Japan and internationally.

    About the Circular Timber Greenhouse™

The Circular Timber Greenhouse™ is a modular structure built primarily from unutilized timber sourced from sawmills. Designed for applications ranging from agricultural use to tourism farms, educational facilities, research centers, and community hubs, pilot implementation began in Shima City, Mie Prefecture in 2025, with a new model in development for 2026.

Priced competitively with steel-framed greenhouses, the structure achieves carbon-negative performance by significantly sequestering CO2 during construction. Designed for long-term use by leveraging timber's natural insulation, humidity regulation, and salt resistance, and engineered for material recovery and reuse after disassembly, it is a building that circulates resources across its full lifecycle.

The Circular Timber Greenhouse™ is realized through partnerships with the following organizations.

    nojimoku Co., Ltd.

Headquarters: Kumano City, Mie Prefecture. Director: Nobutaka Noji.

Supplies unutilized timber generated during the sawmilling process as structural material.

    CULTIVERA Co., Ltd.

Headquarters: Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture. Director: Shohei Toyonaga.
An agri-tech company developing the proprietary cultivation technology "Moisculture," integrated into the greenhouse interior.

Together with its co-development partners, XENCE is rolling out the Circular Timber Greenhouse™ in Japan and abroad. A new model is scheduled for release in 2026, with applications planned across agriculture as well as tourism, education, research, and public spaces, and with entry into overseas markets in view.
